Mediation Services
Mediation is an informal, voluntary and interest-based process in which an impartial third party, trained in facilitation and integrative negotiation techniques, helps the parties in dispute reach a mutually acceptable resolution.
Mediation is distinct from other forms of dispute resolution in that the mediator does not impose a solution but rather works with the parties to create their own solution.
The mediation process:
- Improves communications
- Defuses emotions
- Defines areas of agreement
Benefits of mediation include:
- Swift settlement without formal structures
- Less adversarial
- Protection of privacy through confidentiality
- Creative solutions when needed
- Preservation of business relationships
- Lower costs both in monetary and personal terms
- Low risk as settlement potential is high
Our Aim
The role of our EAP Mediator is to assist and guide the parties towards their own solution by helping them to define the important issues and understand each others' interests. The mediator focuses each side on the crucial factors necessary for settlement and on the consequences of not settling.
The mediator works to defuse hostile attitudes, remedy miscommunications and to soften or eliminate extreme negotiating positions. The mediator enables the parties to view more clearly matters previously distorted by anger and emotion.
