Previous Seminars in 2011

Seminar: Enabling Performance Through Engagement

Presenter: Andrew Shea

Learning how to engage your workforce effectively can have an extremely positive effect on your business, for both your employees and your organisation as a whole.

Engagement is defined as a person’s willingness to go the extra mile and put extra energy, creativity and passion into their work.  This is driven by a number of levers such as:communication, line of sight, values alignment, performance management, development and innovation.  The person’s line manager controls these levers therefore, focus needs to be placed on their selection, deployment & development.

The seminar will also look at stress management and how HR leaders and line managers can have a positive effect on employees and business with a proactive approach
.

Seminar: Appropriate Workplace Behaviour
Presenter:  Trish Murphy

Whilst it might only be a minority of employees who struggle with understanding and displaying appropriate behaviours at work, these small minority can drain HR resources. Disciplinary procedures, whilst sometimes necessary, often do not resolve the issues. Trish Murphy provides an individual training programme which has proven very effective. The programme focuses on the following components:

  • Self-management and self-awareness
  • How to manage stress (anger)
  • Dealing with difficult situations and people
  • Communicating in difficult situations

Seminar: The Importance of Providing Financial Assistance to Staff
Presenter:  Liam Croke

Walk through any workplace in Ireland and you will hear individuals talking about their personal finance: “Is this investment better than that?”, “Should I stop paying into my pension?”, “I’m in negative equity” or “Am I paying too much for life assurance?” and so on. The impact of the global financial crisis has created fear and uncertainty in the minds of most working people and reconfirmed the importance of providing financial education and advice. The fact is, personal finances can be complex and daunting. Workplace financial assistance isn't just about providing information. It gives employees the tools and confidence to make the right decisions to achieving positive financial outcomes which have a direct impact on their personal lives. Hence, it's a life benefit.

Seminar: Supervision
Presenter:  Jane McNicholas

The impact of work on staff wellbeing is a critical issue in many organisations. Burnout – a state of physical and emotional exhaustion – is an increasing phenomenon. Research shows that those at risk of burnout usually begin their working lives as sensitive, empathetic, dedicated individuals, but they may end up with personal feelings of inconsequentiality and defeat, becoming apathetic, cynical, guilty, resentful and depressed. As a consequence, they will at best be ineffective employees and at worst seek other employment if they do not feel supported.

Supporting staff and providing guidance through a structured programme of supervisory support can be an effective method of addressing workplace issues and additionally provide a reflective and practical forum for capturing the experience of your employees so that individuals and your organisation can continuously learn.
